Frequently Asked Questions
What are the tutoring rates?
My tutoring rate is $1 per minute. That means that a 30-minute lesson is $30 and a 50-minute lesson is $50. The tutoring fee covers the time I spend planning lessons. I make an effort to customize lessons to each student’s needs, strengths, and weekly progress.
Where does tutoring happen?
I tutor online, using Zoom. I have had specialized training for online tutoring and have had success with teaching this way. With the right kind of training, online tutoring works just as well as in-person teaching.
How often do you communicate with parents?
Every parent’s expectations on communication are different. I will do an assessment every 3 months to let you know how your child is progressing. If you ever want additional information, please ask in an email, text or phone call and I will send you an update.
How long are tutoring sessions?
Each tutoring session is 50 minutes long. For younger children, this includes a quick break halfway through. Exceptions can be made, if needed.
How does payment work?
Payment is made on a weekly or monthly basis via an automatic payment plan with a credit card or PayPal. Before your first lesson, you will receive a link with login information to your account. You will be asked to enter your card or PayPal information prior to tutoring beginning. It is safe and secure, and you do not have to worry about making payments, as they are made automatically.
There is an added benefit with the monthly option - you get one or two free lessons a month whenever there are more than 4 full weeks that month!
How do I cancel or reschedule a lesson?
If you are not able to make a lesson, please request a change in time at least 5 hours in advance by texting me or rescheduling through your account. If you are unable to do this and miss a lesson, the lesson will still be charged.
While I am lenient up to 3 times because I realize that things happen, I put the responsibility of rescheduling in the parent’s hands. If no contact is made, it is charged as if we had the lesson. There are no exceptions to this.
If you or I need to cancel a lesson ahead of time, there will not be a refund for the lesson or changes on the next invoice, but you will instead get make-up credit to schedule another lesson - please use it.
Since I have a full caseload of students, it is important to start and end on time. If you show up late, it usually will not be possible to make up that time.
How do I stop tutoring for my child?
Tutoring may be terminated by the student’s family or the tutor at any time by giving the other party 14 days prior written notice (email or text).
